Next week sees the return of a franchise that is one of my favourites: Gears of War. Its been almost 2 and a half years since Gears of War Judgment and now the franchise owned by Microsoft and developed by The Coalition (Ultimate Edition with Splash Damage) is releasing on Xbox One August 25th in North America and August 28th in EMEA regions.
Gears of War Ultimate Edition takes the blockbuster original and gives it a new coat of paint with an all new art and graphical style, boost up to 1080 and 60 frames per second multiplayer (30 fps campaign) on Xbox One.
For the first time on console the PC exclusive 5 bonus chapters in the campaign are included as well to give the full original Gears of War experience, I’ve never played those missions before so it will be nice to play some all new content.
On the multiplayer side it remains up 4 vs 4 with 6 multiplayer modes including 3 new ones: Team Deathmatch, 2 vs 2 gnasher execution and King of the Hill (Gears of War 3 style), all the original multiplayer maps plus DLC and PC exclusive maps, a new ranking and progression system, skill based matchmaking, dedicated servers and other Gears of War 3 improvements such as enemy spotting, tac-com and improved sensitivity customisation.
The improvements made to the game sound great and it will be awesome to go back to where it all began and experience the original game.
Also included in the package are Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta access (which begins in Spring 2016) and all 4 original Xbox 360 games (1/2/3/Judgment) which will be given to players in the form of download tokens and backwards compatible so you can play the games on Xbox One.
Gears is back baby, woo!
