Ubisoft’s flagship franchise has taken an interesting spin-off route with the Chronicles series the first of which is set in China and two others set in Russia and India due for release later this year developed by Climax Studios.
The games are set on historical backdrops with 2.5D side scrolling gameplay focusing on stealth and verticality with multiple layers to the gameplay and as someone who feels a bit burnt out on the Assassins Creed formula this seems like something that is still quite interesting to me.
“Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China takes place in China, 1526, as the Ming dynasty starts to crumble. You embody Shao Jun, the last remaining Assassin of the Chinese Brotherhood, returning to her homeland with a vendetta. Newly trained by the legendary Ezio Auditore, she is hell-bent on exacting vengeance and restoring her fallen Brotherhood.” (Via Assassins Creed website)
The most interesting part of the game to me is how you will able to mix up the game by switching to different layers described as fore, mid and background environments which will open up new paths, side-missions and find hidden collectibles.
